Garden Coordinator: Part Time Seasonal
Canterbury Shaker Village seeks an energetic, enthusiastic individual for the position of Garden Program Coordinator. This seasonal position is responsible for executing the educational gardens plan, overseeing garden volunteers, and executing the plan to restore and maintain the Village orchards. Candidates must have extensive experience in gardening or similar experience, knowledge of plant varieties, ability to perform physical tasks involved with planting and maintaining the museum's garden, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will enjoy working outdoors, working with others and as part of a team. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Work schedule will be March: three days a week, April through October: four days a week, November and December: three days a week. Seasonal Museum Guides
Education Department is seeking energetic individuals to join their seasonal museum guide staff. Responsibilities include tours, school programs, and historic building interpretation April through October with extra dates in December. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with groups of all ages. Background in Educations, History, or Theater preferred. Training provided. Event Set-up Assistant
Assistance needed for several Special Events, day of set up and day of event. Responsibilities include setting up tables, chairs and fencing; assisting event participants with load in; trash detail, taking down events, and general assistance. Volunteers Needed
Canterbury Shaker Village is seeking volunteers in the areas of special events and craft demonstrations. Special event volunteers work with the public, artists, and demonstrators at Village events from May to December. Craft demonstrators interpret traditional arts, including weaving, spinning, box making, broom making, and letterpress printing from May to October. Training is provided. Volunteer benefits include: Membership eligibility (based on volunteer hours), discounts at the Museum Store, Farmstand, and on workshops, and invitations to volunteer appreciation events. Garden Volunteers Needed
Canterbury Shaker Village is seeking individuals or groups who are interested in helping to plant and maintain herb, vegetable, and perennial gardens. These gardens and associated farm fields are used to help explain the rich history of the relationship between the Shakers and agriculture. Volunteers must be able to do some physical work outdoors in varying weather. Gardening experience a plus, but not required. Training and tools are provided. Benefits include the opportunity to work with veteran volunteers and staff to learn about Shaker use of plants and the experience of working on land that has been farmed by the Shakers for 200 years. In addition, volunteers receive discounts at the Museum Store and can work toward a free membership at the Village.
