Terms & Conditions

• Canterbury Shaker Village is pleased to make select buildings and grounds available for your private function; however, our foremost obligation is to the local community and to the security of our historic properties. The Executive Director of Canterbury Shaker Village therefore reserves the final right of approval for your use of the property.

• Spaces are available for rent for a maximum of five hours. Additional hours will be billed as noted for each space. Non-profit organizations receive a 30% discount on space rentals. Fees are non-negotiable.

• Wedding ceremonies and receptions are only allowed on the Village grounds after 5pm.

• The function/meeting shall be private and shall include only you and invited guests.

• You and your guests shall comply with the local laws and ordinances, with all requests of Canterbury Shaker Village staff and rules stated in the Canterbury Shaker Village Rental Terms & Conditions. Additionally, in the instance of evening functions, guests will leave the site no later than midnight.

• You will be liable for any damages to Canterbury Shaker Village property caused by you or your guests. You agree to indemnify and hold Canterbury Shaker Village harmless from any liabilities, costs, or damages based on or arising from your use of the property or from any violation of the terms of this agreement.

• Smoking is not permitted within the grounds of the Village.

• No burning candles are allowed in any of the Village's buildings.

• Decorations for the ceremony and or the reception can not be attached to any of the Village's buildings.

• Amplified music is not permitted during regular Museum operating hours. Amplified music is permitted from 5 - 11pm only. Non-amplified music will be permitted at any time up until 11pm.

• Canterbury Shaker Village reserves the right to cancel your function at any time, even when it is in progress, should the terms of this agreement be violated by you or your guests. This may be done at our sole discretion; this decision shall be binding and final. In such a case, Canterbury Shaker Village shall retain all payments and shall not be liable for any charges or forfeited deposits.

• Functions with 50 or more guests taking place on the Village grounds after 5pm will require a police officer ($60 per hour). The cost of said officer will be added to the total cost of your site rental fee.
