A Beginner’s Introduction to Tai Chi

Individuals with no previous exposure to tai chi will learn how this ancient Chinese exercise regimen can prevent and/or re-mediate common health problems. If you can sit, stand and shrug your shoulders, you can do tai chi. By the end of the 8 weeks, participants will be able to perform the preparatory tai chi exercise called Tai Chi Gong, as well as the first section of the traditional Yang style Tai Chi “Slow Set”. Daily practice of these simple exercise movements can improve immune function, reduce stress and hypertension, improve sleep and eliminate a number of musculoskeletal aches and pains.


After a successful 30 year career in public safety, William Halacy retired from his position as Concord New Hampshire Police Chief and began a new career in Asian medicine. Following six years of study and graduation from the New England School of Acupuncture with a Master’s Degree in Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture, he opened a general acupuncture practice in Concord in 2008. He is a nationally certified Diplomate in Acupuncture, certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is licensed by the State of New Hampshire. In 2013, Bill was appointed to the New Hampshire Board of Acupuncture Licensing by Governor Maggie Hassan to oversee the licensing of acupuncturists in the State. For over twenty-one years, Bill, with his wife, Margaret, has studied Yang style tai chi chuan in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Los Angeles under the tutelage of Masters Tung Kai Ying and Tung Chen Wei of Xingtai, China. He has been teaching tai chi for the past thirteen years and presently has classes at The Center for Health Promotion in Concord. Bill routinely uses tai chi as a form of physical therapy for his acupuncture patients.
