Shaker Broom Workshop

Shaker Broom Making

Date: Sunday, October 29th, 2017

Time: 9:30am-4:30pm (Lunch is not provided – students should bring their own packed lunch.)

Canterbury brooms were prized for their simplicity, workmanship and usefulness. Join Everett Bailey as he guides you through the broom making process in the historic Carpenter’s Shop. No experience is necessary to attend, only patience and an interest in Shaker craft. At the end of the workshop, you will take home a completed, Shaker-style broom.

Maximum of 2 students is flexible if participants are family/friends; on a case by case basis. Please call to inquire.

Unable to attend this workshop session? Individual workshops can be arranged through Nicole Laurin, Special Events and Adult Programs Manager (603-783-9077 x285/nlaurin@shakers.org).

Instructor: Broom making has given Everett Bailey the opportunity to preserve a forgotten craft and master a difficult but satisfying skill. He apprenticed in the Canterbury Broom Shop, learning the trade and making brooms with Broomsquire Jack Frost. Everett appreciates the fact that broom making fulfills one’s creative urges while also producing something functional and useful. He prefers to keep his designs simple, staying true to the original Shaker flat broom.
