ABC’s of Letterpress Printing

Dates: Saturday, September 30, 2017

Time: 9:30am-4:30pm (Lunch is not provided – students should bring their own packed lunch or can purchase lunch at the The Shaker Box Lunch and Farm Stand.)

Tickets: $75 for Canterbury Shaker Village Members, $90 for Non-Members. Additional $10.00 materials fee due to workshop instructor or participants may bring their own card stock/note cards/envelopes. Please purchase tickets here.

Learn the basics of letterpress printing in the Canterbury Shaker Village Print Shop! Participants will design their own personal project incorporating different type faces, “wing dings,” and Victorian graphic enhancers. After hand-setting the type, participants will print their projects on a hand-fed, nineteenth-century platen printing press. Possible projects include party invitations, Christmas cards, personalized note cards and stationary, business cards, or other fun projects.

Maximim of two participants is flexible if participants are working on the same project. Please inquire if this is the case.

Instructor: Jim Macnab began letterpress printing in junior high school at the age of 12. At the time, he had his own print shop at home, producing business cards, stationary, and wedding invitations. In the spring of 2005, Jim joined the Village Print Shop as a craft demonstrator, returning to his first love, letterpress printing.
