Touring the Village

We Make You Kindly Welcome

Canterbury Shaker Village offers a variety of educational and engaging experiences in one of the most picturesque settings in northern New England. Admission to the Village includes access to self-guided exhibit buildings, craft demonstration shops, guided tours, family activities, herbal and vegetable gardens, unique shopping, simple dining, and breathtaking scenery.

Visitors should allow at least two to three hours to experience the beauty of the Village and its exhibits and tours. It is easily possible to spend an entire day exploring the Village.

As a museum with both indoor and outdoor components, please be prepared for the weather on the day of your visit. Our footpaths are dirt and gravel; comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Most of our historic buildings have neither heating nor air conditioning. Please dress in layers of clothing or bring an extra jacket if visiting in the spring or fall.

Due to the historic character of the Village, many of our buildings have limited handicapped access. Buildings with first-floor wheelchair accessibility include the Visitor Education Center, Shaker Box Lunch & Farmstand, Carriage House, Creamery, Dwelling House, Garden Barn, Infirmary, Laundry, School House, and Syrup Shop.

Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed in the Village.

Personal photography without flash is allowed throughout the Village except in the Carriage House.
