Today, we enjoy telling ghost stories and revel in a well-timed fright or harrowing tale. To the Shakers, however, the spiritual world was an important part of the community.
From its beginning in the 19th century during the Era of Manifestations, spiritualism grew to be a part of Shaker faith. Many Shakers recorded otherworldly accounts, and these experiences sustained Shaker communal life across generations.
